How to use it
Test daily with the LH strips from around Day 10 of your cycle until you get a positive, meaning the test line is as dark or darker than the control line. Testing twice a day as you approach your surge helps you catch it precisely. Collect the sample in one of the specimen cups and let it liquefy for 15 to 30 minutes at room temperature. Draw it slowly into a syringe, avoiding air bubbles. Lying on your back with hips slightly raised, gently insert the syringe and release the sample near the cervix. Stay lying down for 15 to 30 minutes. Insert your disc afterwards to hold everything in place, and wear it for several hours or overnight. Test for pregnancy 10 to 14 days after ovulation using first morning urine. Full instructions are in the box, and we're a message away if anything is unclear.

Six rounds, two cycles, and why that matters
The Mezzo covers six rounds of insemination. Most people use three rounds per cycle, which makes this a two-cycle kit rather than six separate attempts.
The reason comes down to how short your fertile window is. Once you get a positive LH test, ovulation usually follows within 12 to 36 hours, and the egg itself is viable for around 12 to 24 hours after that. Inseminating more than once across that window gives sperm the best chance of being in the right place at the right time. Most people inseminate on the day of their positive test and again the next day, with a third round giving room to adjust if timing shifts.
The 30 ovulation strips are sized to match, roughly 15 per cycle, so you can start testing early and test twice daily as you close in on your surge. If one cycle is all you're planning for now, The Dinky covers three rounds. If you'd like a longer runway, The Stellar covers nine.
Is this an IUI or IVF kit?
Neither, and the difference is worth understanding before you buy.
IUI (intrauterine insemination) places sperm directly into the uterus using a catheter, and can only be performed by a doctor. IVF (in vitro fertilisation) is a full clinical procedure where eggs are fertilised outside the body, and in South Africa typically runs from R60,000 per cycle.
The Mezzo supports intracervical insemination, or ICI, which places the sample at the entrance of the cervix. It's the most common method used in at-home insemination kits worldwide, it's safe to do yourself, and it's exactly what Taryn and Kat used during their own journey. You'll sometimes see kits like this listed as "at-home IUI kits" or "home IVF kits" online. They aren't, and any kit claiming otherwise is worth a second look.
Choosing your disc: disposable or reusable
The Mezzo comes with your choice of six disposable Softdiscs or one reusable Origin disc. Both sit at the cervix and create a reservoir that keeps the sample in contact with the cervical opening, reducing leakage and giving sperm a better environment. They're the same size and work the same way.
Disposable Softdiscs are the simpler option if you'd rather not think about cleaning and storage between rounds. The reusable Origin disc is body-safe silicone designed for repeated use, and works out better value across multiple cycles if you're comfortable sterilising it between uses. Neither is more effective than the other, so it comes down to preference.

Should I choose the disposable Softdiscs or the reusable Origin disc?
Both work identically and are the same size. Choose the six disposable Softdiscs if you'd rather not deal with cleaning and storage between rounds. Choose the reusable Origin disc if you're comfortable sterilising between uses and want better value across multiple cycles.
Should I buy The Mezzo or The Dinky?

Can single women use this kit?

Does at-home insemination actually work?
It can, and timing is the single biggest factor. Success depends on inseminating close to ovulation, on sperm quality, and on your own fertility, which is why 30 ovulation strips are included rather than sold separately. Many people conceive within their first few well-timed attempts, and others need longer or eventually clinical support.
Is at-home insemination safe?
