Small but mighty - meet South Africa's most approachable insemination kit

Perfect for those just starting out or wanting to try a single cycle at a time, The Dinky is our most compact at-home insemination kit, designed and shipped right here in South Africa. Simple, approachable, and packed with the essentials, it's the ideal first step for anyone beginning their TTC journey.

Created by two women who got pregnant using the at-home insemination method themselves, this kit has been carefully crafted through real experience and thoughtful design. Whether you're exploring your options or easing into your TTC journey, The Dinky is a gentle, supportive place to begin.

Who Is The Dinky For?
Whether you're a same-sex couple, a single woman exploring known or anonymous donor conception, or a heterosexual couple wanting a private, affordable first step before considering clinical options, The Dinky was made with you in mind. It's judgement-free, straightforward, and built from real experience.

What’s inside:
✓ 3 round-tipped syringes (for smooth, comfortable insemination)
✓ 3 disposable Softdiscs to help keep everything in place
✓ 3 sterile specimen cups for clean, easy collection
✓ 10 high-quality LH ovulation test strips to help you nail your timing
✓ 3 HCG pregnancy test strips for when you’re ready to check

A fraction of the cost of clinic procedures - In South Africa, a single IUI cycle at a fertility clinic can cost R8,000–R20,000, and IVF can run R60,000 or more. At-home insemination with The Dinky gives you a clinically-informed, evidence-based alternative for R595 - with everything you need included. It's not a replacement for medical care when that's what's needed, but for many people, it's the right place to start.

How to Use an At-Home Insemination Kit (Step-by-Step)

Your gentle, no-fuss introduction to at-home insemination. The Dinky Kit includes everything you need for up to 3 insemination cycles, with clear, easy-to-follow steps for each part of the process.

1

Track Ovulation with LH Strips

To increase your chances of conception, you’ll want to time insemination around ovulation. The kit includes 10 high-quality ovulation test strips to help you find your fertile window.

How to test:

  1. Start testing a few days before expected ovulation (usually around Day 10 of your cycle).

  2. Collect urine in a clean specimen cup.

  3. Dip the strip in the urine for 5–10 seconds, making sure not to pass the MAX line.

  4. Lay the strip flat and wait 3–5 minutes.

  5. A positive result = the test line is as dark or darker than the control line. This is your LH surge, and ovulation will likely occur within the next 12–36 hours.

💡 Inseminate on the day of your positive test and again the next day if possible.

2

Collect the Semen Sample

  1. Use one of the 3 included specimen cups for semen collection.

  2. Allow the sample to liquefy for 15–30 minutes at room temperature before insemination.

3

Load the Syringe

  1. Use one of the round-tipped syringes provided.

  2. Slowly draw the semen into the syringe, taking care to avoid air bubbles.

  3. Once loaded, keep the syringe tip upright and avoid touching any surfaces.

4

Inseminate

  1. Find a comfortable position — many choose to lie on their back with hips slightly elevated.

  2. Gently insert the syringe into the vaginal canal and slowly press the plunger to release the semen near the cervix.

  3. Remain lying down for 15–30 minutes after insemination.

5

Insert the Softdisc (Optional, but recommended)

The Softdisc sits at the cervix and creates a reservoir that keeps the semen in contact with the cervical opening - reducing leakage and giving sperm the best possible environment. It's one of the most impactful things you can do after insemination.

  1. Pinch a disposable Softdisc in half to form a narrow shape.

  2. Insert it into the vaginal canal, aiming toward the tailbone.

  3. Tuck the front rim behind the pubic bone to secure it.

  4. The disc can be worn for several hours or overnight for optimal support.

6

Wait and Test

After ovulation, wait 10–14 days before testing for pregnancy using one of the 3 included HCG pregnancy test strips.

How to test:

  1. Use first morning urine for the most accurate results.

  2. Dip the test strip into a urine sample (collected in a clean specimen cup).

  3. Wait 3–5 minutes.

  4. One line = not pregnant, two lines = potential positive.

💡 If you get a negative result and your period doesn’t start, wait a couple days and test again.

Simple. Supportive. Empowering.

The Dinky Kit is perfect for those taking their first steps into at-home insemination — no overwhelm, just essentials and encouragement 💗

Frequently asked questions

How much does an at-home insemination kit cost in South Africa?

The Dinky Insemination Kit is R595 and covers up to 3 insemination cycles. It includes everything you need - syringes, softdiscs, specimen cups, ovulation strips, and pregnancy tests. No hidden costs.

What's the difference between an at-home insemination kit and an IVF kit?

IVF (in vitro fertilisation) is a complex clinical procedure where eggs are fertilised outside the body - it requires a fertility clinic, medical staff, and typically costs R60,000–R150,000 per cycle in South Africa. An at-home insemination kit supports intracervical insemination (ICI), which is done privately at home. It's a simpler, significantly more affordable first option that many people try before exploring clinical routes.

Can single women use this kit?

Absolutely. The Dinky is used by same-sex couples, single women using a known or anonymous donor, and heterosexual couples alike. The process is the same regardless of your family structure.

How many insemination attempts can I do with The Dinky?

The Dinky includes supplies for up to 3 insemination cycles. If you want more attempts without reordering, take a look at The Mezzo (6 cycles) or The Stellar (our largest kit).

Do you ship The Dinky across South Africa?

Yes, we deliver nationwide across South Africa with 2–3 day delivery. Discreet packaging can be requested at checkout.

Is at-home insemination legal in South Africa?

Yes. At-home insemination is legal in South Africa. There are legal considerations around sperm donation - for example, buying or selling sperm is prohibited, and donors may only contribute to a maximum of 12 live births. We cover all of this in our Donor Legalities guide.
