Timing is everything and this kit has you covered.

Our Ovulation Kit combines a high-precision digital BBT thermometer with OvaDetect LH ovulation predictor strips - giving you two complementary methods to track, predict, and confirm ovulation in one affordable bundle. LH strips tell you ovulation is approaching. Your BBT temperature tells you it has happened. Together, they give you a fuller picture of your fertile window than either method alone. Designed for anyone on a TTC journey and shipped across South Africa in 2-3 business days.

Why LH strips and a BBT thermometer work better together - LH test strips are a prediction tool - they detect the hormone surge that signals ovulation is about to happen, giving you a 12-36 hour window to act. But a positive LH strip doesn't confirm that ovulation actually occurred. A BBT thermometer adds that confirmation: after ovulation, progesterone causes a small but measurable rise in your resting temperature (typically 0.2-0.5°C) that stays elevated until your next period. Used together, strips tell you when to try and your temperature chart tells you whether ovulation happened that cycle. For anyone with irregular cycles, PCOS, or a history of anovulatory cycles, this dual approach is especially valuable.

About the digital BBT thermometer - Basal body temperature tracking requires a thermometer accurate to two decimal places - a standard fever thermometer won't cut it. The BBT thermometer in this kit measures to 0.01°C precision, which is sensitive enough to detect the small post-ovulation temperature shift. It includes a beep signal, last-reading memory (so you can record it before getting out of bed), auto shut-off, and a fever alert. A BBT chart is also included to help you map your cycle over time. For anyone who has been using a standard thermometer to track cycles, the difference in precision is significant.

Which kit option should I choose? - If you have a regular 28-32 day cycle and test once daily, the Thermometer + 30 Strips option covers roughly 2-3 cycles of testing. If you have irregular or longer cycles, prefer to test twice daily for better accuracy, or are in an active insemination cycle where catching the surge early matters, the Thermometer + 50 Strips option gives you more testing room without worrying about running out. When in doubt, more strips is always the safer choice during an active TTC cycle.

If you have PCOS, the dual LH + BBT method is especially useful. PCOS can cause multiple LH surges before ovulation actually occurs, which makes LH strips alone harder to interpret. Your BBT chart gives you a secondary confirmation layer - helping you distinguish a true ovulatory cycle from a failed attempt. See our PCOS ovulation tracking guide in the Learning Center for more detail.

How to Use the Ovulation Kit

Tracking ovulation with both LH test strips and Basal Body Temperature (BBT) gives you a clearer picture of your fertile window — and this kit helps you do just that, with everything you need in one place.

1

Understand What You’re Tracking

  1. Ovulation test strips detect the surge of Luteinizing Hormone (LH), which spikes just before you ovulate.

  2. Basal Body Temperature (BBT) rises slightly after ovulation — by about 0.2–0.5°C — helping you confirm that ovulation has occurred.

Used together, these tools help you spot when you're most fertile and track your cycle over time.

2

Start LH Testing

Begin using the ovulation test strips a few days before your expected ovulation.

How to use:

  1. Collect urine in a clean, dry cup (avoid first morning urine — mid-morning or early evening is best).

  2. Dip the test strip into the sample for 5–10 seconds (don’t go past the MAX line).

  3. Lay it flat and wait 3–5 minutes.

  4. A positive result means the test line is as dark or darker than the control line — ovulation is likely to happen within 12–36 hours.

💡 Test once or twice a day around your fertile window for best results.

3

Take Your BBT Each Morning

To track your Basal Body Temperature, use the included digital BBT thermometer.

How to use:

  1. Keep the thermometer by your bedside.

  2. As soon as you wake up — before speaking, moving, or drinking — place the thermometer under your tongue.

  3. Wait for the beep that signals your reading is ready.

  4. Record the temperature using the included BBT chart or your preferred fertility tracking app.

Your BBT will rise slightly after ovulation and remain high until your period.

4

Use the Extra Features

  1. Your thermometer stores your last reading so you can easily compare.

  2. The fever alarm will sound if your temp hits 37.8°C (100°F) or higher.

  3. It auto shuts off after 10 minutes to save battery life.

What’s in the Kit

  1. 1x Digital BBT Thermometer

  2. 30 or 50 LH Ovulation Test Strips (depending on your variant)

  3. 1x BBT Chart

  4. 1x User Manual

  5. 5x Probe Covers (optional for hygiene)

  6. 1x Carry Box

Cycle Insight = Empowered Timing

Use your BBT chart to track patterns across your cycle. With a few months of consistent tracking, you’ll get to know your body’s rhythm — and feel more confident about when to try.

Frequently asked questions

Where can you get an ovulation kit in South Africa?

This Ovulation Kit is available exclusively through our online store and ships nationwide across South Africa in 2-3 business days. It is not currently available in Clicks, Dischem, or retail pharmacies. Ordering online means you get the full kit in one delivery, at a better price per strip than pharmacy brands, with access to our Learning Center and support team throughout your journey.

How much does an ovulation kit cost in South Africa?

The Ovulation Kit is available in two configurations: Thermometer + 30 Strips at R350, or Thermometer + 50 Strips at R440. To put that in context: the BBT thermometer retails separately, ovulation strips from pharmacy brands typically cost R25-R50 each in small packs, and a comparable dual-method kit from an international retailer would cost significantly more by the time you factor in shipping and import duties. Buying locally means faster delivery, no customs surprises, and support from a team that has been through the TTC journey themselves.

What is an ovulation kit and how does it work?

An ovulation kit is a combination of tools used to predict and confirm ovulation. This kit includes LH ovulation predictor strips, which detect the luteinizing hormone surge that signals ovulation is approaching (typically 12-36 hours before it happens), and a digital BBT thermometer, which detects the small temperature rise that confirms ovulation has occurred. Used together, they give you a more complete picture of your fertile window than either method alone.

What is the difference between LH strips and a BBT thermometer?

LH strips predict ovulation - they detect the hormone surge that happens just before you ovulate, giving you a window to time insemination or intercourse. A BBT thermometer confirms ovulation - it detects the small temperature rise that occurs after ovulation, telling you that it happened. LH strips tell you when to try. BBT tells you whether your body followed through. Using both is more reliable than either method on its own.

How many strips do I need per cycle?

If you test once daily for around 10 days, you need 10 strips per cycle. If you test twice daily (recommended for better accuracy), you need around 20 per cycle. The 30-strip pack covers roughly 2-3 cycles of once-daily testing. The 50-strip pack is better for twice-daily testing, irregular cycles, or PCOS.

Can I use this kit if I have PCOS?

Yes, and the dual LH + BBT approach is particularly helpful for PCOS. PCOS can cause multiple partial LH surges before ovulation actually occurs, making strip results harder to interpret on their own. Adding BBT tracking gives you a temperature-based confirmation of whether ovulation happened that cycle. See our PCOS ovulation tracking guide in the Learning Center for a full breakdown.

Is the BBT thermometer in this kit accurate enough for fertility tracking?

Yes. The thermometer measures to 0.01°C precision, which is the level of accuracy needed to detect the 0.2-0.5°C post-ovulation temperature rise. Standard fever thermometers typically only measure to 0.1°C, which is not precise enough for BBT charting. The kit also includes a printed BBT chart to help you map your cycle over time.

Can I use this ovulation kit alongside an insemination kit?

Absolutely - this is exactly how most people on our site use it. The LH strips in this kit will tell you when your surge has started, which is your signal to inseminate. Pair it with your Dinky, Mezzo, or Stellar insemination kit and inseminate on the day of your positive LH test and again the following day if possible.
